As one of the leading and most responsible eco-resorts in Sri Lanka, we have taken inspiration from nature itself to showcase the potential for sustainable dwellings of the future. By choosing to design Ayurvie Sigiriya with unforeseen eco-friendly building methods, we have generated positive and resounding changes in our surrounding environment.
Ayurvie Sigiriya was built and designed with the goal to challenge perspectives on our built environment – and showcase slow and conscious living for the future. Epitomizing the 4R concept, our handmade dwellings have been built with the use of eco-friendly bag construction using recycled or discarded polypropylene bags, filled with soil and used as a replacement for bricks and mortar. Designed to match the weather patterns in Sri Lanka’s dry zone, our guests will be able to immerse themselves in the region’s lush tropical environment from the cool comfort of biophilic spaces which helps insulate and regulate the temperatures of the rooms inspired by nature itself.
In addition, the vast majority of furniture and interior designs take shape from the realm of upcycled materials, adding an extraordinary dimension to the space. The artistry and innovation behind these creations not only breathe new life into discarded objects but also serve as a driving force behind waste management techniques. By repurposing materials that would otherwise contribute to waste, this realm embraces sustainability in its very core, offering a powerful example of how conscious design choices can positively impact our environment. It stands as a beacon of inspiration, showcasing the endless possibilities of upcycling and reminding us of the transformative potential that lies within our grasp.

Sustainability at Thema Digital Space
For World Ozone Day and Clean Air Day, Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa spent some time with the kids at our REV Computer Centre in Kalkudah, talking about air pollution, the ozone layer, and the simple things we can do to care for our environment.
The session also included the distribution of 18 Kumbuk saplings, giving the children a chance to take what they learnt a little further by planting and caring for a tree of their own.

Looking back at an afternoon of conversations on sustainability and wellness tourism in Sri Lanka.
Thema Collection, together with Australia’s Market Development Facility (MDF) brought representatives from government, the tourism industry and development partners for “Sustainability and Wellness Tourism: Positioning Sri Lanka for the Future.”
The afternoon included perspectives from Hon. (Prof.) Ruwan Ranasinghe, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Deputy High Commissioner Ruth Baird, and industry representatives, followed by a panel discussion on “Unlocking Wellness Tourism Opportunities in Sri Lanka.”

The Minneriya Elephant Gathering is coming to an end for another year, leaving behind a collection of moments!
This year, our naturalists had the privilege of observing elephants as they gathered, fed, rested and interacted with one another. It is during occasions like this that so much of their behaviour comes to life: the bond between mothers and calves, playful moments among the young, social interactions within herds, and the quiet ways elephants communicate with one another.
And while the Gathering may be over, the wilderness around Minneriya continues to offer incredible encounters. If you are staying at Aliya Resort, Ayurvie Sigiriya and Amba Yaalu Kandalama by Thema Collection can explore the region through safari experiences in Minneriya, Kaudulla and Hurulu Eco Park, each offering a different window into Sri Lanka’s dry-zone wildlife.

It was a wonderful gathering of responsible tourism champions from India, Nepal and Sri Lanka, coming together to celebrate the people and places shaping a better future for tourism. Our Chairman, Mr. Chandra Wickramasinghe, was there to represent Thema Collection and share in this special moment.

@themacollectionsrilanka & @connaissance.de.ceylan joined hands with @vetsforfuture and @eraeliya_villas to support a community dog sterilisation and vaccination programme in the Weligama area, reaching 34 community dogs.
The initiative was carried out with the aim of supporting the welfare of community dogs while contributing to a healthier and more responsible environment for the communities they share.
Following the procedures, the dogs were cared for in the field until they had recovered sufficiently. Food, shelter and post-operative care were provided before each dog was safely returned to the location where it was originally found.
A shared effort, made possible through collaboration and care, for healthier communities and better lives for the animals that are part of them.
