Sigiriya
World famous for one of the most iconic attractions in Sri Lanka, Sigiriya is a city that holds much historic value. A giant vertical rock surrounded by a blanket of green was once the royal palace of a famous ruler named King Kassapa. This ancient fortress has also been recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its remarkable mini-water gardens at the very top of Sigiriya Rock in Sri Lanka.
Sigiriya is much more than just the famous Lions Rock. Use the hotel as a base to discover the cultural triangle. Explore the ancient cities of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa, as well as the temples of Pidurangala and Dambulla. If you are looking for offbeat experiences, visiting a village and its temple can offer a great insight into the life of the locals.
The region is a highlight for nature lovers, with scenery that blends lush dry forests and paddy fields irrigated by ancient tanks or man-made lakes built by the kings of the past. With the three national parks of Minneriya, Kaudulla, and Eco Park nearby, Sigiriya is the perfect base to spot the “Aliya” – elephant in the Sinhala language. Speak to our naturalists at Aliya, who will curate wildlife encounters for you, from bird-watching walks to night walks to spot the Grey Slender Lloris.
