A retreat built by the British to remind them of home. Nuwara Eliya is an eclectic mix of a colonial-styled town and the hustle and bustle of a large Sri Lankan town.

Located just 18 kilometres or 40 minutes away, Nuwara Eliya is the highest town in Sri Lanka (1,868) and was designed to resemble a typical English village. Used as a retreat by British colonialists to remind them of home, the town is home to an 18-hole golf course, a racecourse and various buildings that are reminiscent of British country houses. With their brick facades, the post office and hill club are two Stirling examples of such architecture that transports you to the setting of an Agatha Christie mystery; with all the charm and cosiness of old England.
