Visit Kanneliya Forest Reserve

A UNESCO Biosphere Reserve
Image

Nestled along the Udugama–Hiniduma Road in Galle, the Kanneliya Forest Reserve, also known as the Kanneliya-Dediyagala-Nakiyadeniya forest complex, stands as the last extensive rainforest in Sri Lanka, aside from Sinharaja.

Encompassing 10,139 hectares, this biodiversity hotspot is governed by the Department of Forest Conservation and is home to numerous endemic plants and animals. Recognized as a UNESCO biosphere reserve in 2004, Kanneliya boasts the origins of the Gin Ganga and Nilwala Ganga rivers, establishing itself as one of South Asia's floristically rich areas. The reserve unveils natural wonders, including Anagimale Ella Waterfall near the entrance and Narangas Ella Waterfall within its depths. Immerse yourself in the untouched beauty of Kanneliya!
