An Early Morning Stroll on the Path to Paradise

If you find yourself surrounded by beautiful scenery on all sides, which side would you choose to turn? If you visit our fishing village-like resort in Pasikudah, Maalu Maalu Resort and Spa, you might just face that dilemma. Pasikudah is a place that feels like stepping into a living postcard of Sri Lanka. As you stroll along Pasikuda’s shoreline, you’ll be surrounded by nature’s beauty, reminding you of all the simple things in life that we often forget to appreciate.

Let us take you on an early morning walk around Maalu Maalu Resort! Rise before the sun and let’s stroll along the shoreline. After about 800 meters from the resort, you will arrive at a spot where breathtaking views of the first sunrays of the day seep through the horizon, making you wonder whether you were escorted to paradise. Just 140 meters from this sunrise point lies the Pasikudah Corals View. As the sun paints the waves, jump into the water to witness the beauty underwater and take the chance to snorkel among the marine life. After a refreshing dip, continue walking, as this is just the beginning.

Continuing along the coastline, your barefoot will feel the soft sand and notice the seashells and bits of seaweed scattered along the shore. After a leisurely walk of around 750 meters, you will reach ‘Elephant Rock’, a large rock by the shoreline shaped like an elephant. This spot offers perfect coastal views and glimpses of the vibrant lives that thrive in Pasikudah’s ecosystem. Speaking of the lives along the shore, you might come across the distinct Indian star tortoise (Geochelone elegans) and tiny hermit crabs. Snorkel underwater and you will meet vibrant fish, like pufferfish , triggerfish, butterflyfish, and angelfish. Occasionally, you might see eels (Anguilliformes) and coastal birds too. Exploring this east coast is an experience that connects you with coastal ecosystems in its purest form.

On your way back, stop at Kannakkudah Fishery Point, where locals still practice age-old fishing techniques. Also, the nearby market stalls offer you a chance to interact with locals and learn the secrets behind their coastal life.

After an enchanting walk along the beach, if you are looking to relax your body, just 300 meters from the resort, the public beach at Pasikudah with its calm and shallow waters offers the balance you wished for. You are welcome to stop by for a refreshing swim in the vast ocean pool or explore the stunning coral reef nearby. The adventure doesn’t have to stop there! About 900-meter walk in the opposite direction reveals another sunrise point, equally mesmerizing. Further along, you will find the Munai Murugan Kovil, a Tamil temple cherished by the local community. Its detailed architecture and calm surroundings make it a peaceful stop, offering a glimpse into the cultural heritage of the region. Beyond the Kovil, remainings of properties affected by the 2004 tsunami stand as a saddening reminder of Pasikudah’s history.

A walk on the Pasikudah coastal line is an experience in which every step reveals a different layer of beauty. Its local community, natural wonders, cultural landmarks, and wildlife create an experience like no other. So, shall we decide together which side to turn on your path to paradise?
