Discover the charm of Kalkudah and Valaichchenai villages through a leisurely bicycle ride guided by our staff.
Guided by one of our hotel staff, start from the hotel and cycle along the back roads bordering the Valaichchenai Lagoon, home to one of the largest fishery harbours in the region. Stop at a Hindu Kovil which dates back over 100 years, explore the fishing harbour where overnight vessels set off on their fishing expeditions and take a peak into the markets and shops of Valaichchenai where you can explore some of the local snacks. Depending on your interests the visit can be extended to visit a church and more Hindu temples along the route. On your way back to Maalu Maalu, you can stop to explore the ReV Computer Center where we at Maalu Maalu help fund computer classes free of charge to the local community. The whole Batticaloa village tour experience we have curated for you will take around 3 hours and will be a total of 16 KM on a mix of gravel and Tar roads. The bicycle ride will provide a great insight into life in the region where Christians, Catholics, Hindus and followers of Islam coexist together.
