At Wild Glamping Gal Oya, our commitment to environmental sustainability is deeply ingrained in every aspect of our resort. Inspired by the architectural heritage of the indigenous Veddah community of Sri Lanka, our design and construction approach echoes their traditional homes. By embracing the indigenous architecture, we not only pay homage to their rich cultural heritage but also ensure that our resort seamlessly blends with the natural surroundings.
In line with our dedication to community involvement, we actively engaged the local Veddah community in the construction process. Their expertise and traditional knowledge played a significant role in shaping the eco-friendly design of our resort. By collaborating with the local community, we foster a sense of pride and ownership, further reinforcing our commitment to responsible and inclusive practices.
To minimize our environmental impact, we prioritize the use of upcycled and locally sourced materials throughout the construction process. By repurposing materials and sourcing locally, we reduce our carbon footprint and support the local economy. These sustainable practices not only contribute to preserving the natural beauty of the Gal Oya region but also create a distinctive and authentic experience for our guests.
Our efforts have been recognized and validated by the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka, awarding Wild Glamping Gal Oya with the prestigious Platinum Certification. This accolade highlights our resort’s outstanding commitment to environmental sustainability and eco-friendly practices. Once known as the Kabaragalla Tea Factory, Tea & Experience Factory holds a beautiful little piece of Sri Lanka’s tea story. Back in 1883, at the very first tea auction, it was only Kabaragalla tea that was sold. Today, the factory has been transformed into a hotel, but its story still lives on right here at the property, in the old spaces, the tea-making legacy, and the charm that still lingers within its walls.
