The Royal Botanical Garden of Peradeniya was established in 1821 and now covers 140 acres smuggled on a loop of the Mahaweli River, Sri Lanka’s longest river. Its primary purpose was the testing and acclimatizing of plants for commercial use in Sri Lanka

Originally designed for plant testing and acclimatization, it now proudly showcases an astounding array of biodiversity, including flora from diverse sub-tropical climates worldwide. Wander amidst regal palms, marvel at giant canon ball trees, and admire the captivating collection of orchids. Celebrities have planted some trees, adding to its allure.
