Sustainability at Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa
As one of the most eco-friendly resorts in Sri Lanka, we treat the matter of sustainability very seriously here at Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa. We run multiple sustainability initiatives to uplift the lives of our local environment and communities. From environmental conservation and restoration to employment creation and youth empowerment through education, we help a number of people and the planet via a foundation we support called Reconstruire et Vivre (R.eV.).
Our Philosophy
Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa is founded on the twin sustainability pillars of being Environmentally Friendly and Socially Acceptable. With every care given to reducing the carbon footprint and environmental impact of our resort, stay at Maalu Maalu Resort & Spa, reassured in the knowledge that your choice is a mindful one.
We invest a significant amount of our time and resources in measures that will actively improve the lives of our staff and local communities as well as safeguard our beautiful, east coast environment. This includes initiatives such as our Coral Restoration project; R.e.V Computer and Language School; beach clean-up programs; efforts to increase regional job opportunities; and our contribution to the continued economic development of Pasikudah and the east coast.

@themacollectionsrilanka & @connaissance.de.ceylan joined hands with @vetsforfuture and @eraeliya_villas to support a community dog sterilisation and vaccination programme in the Weligama area, reaching 34 community dogs.
The initiative was carried out with the aim of supporting the welfare of community dogs while contributing to a healthier and more responsible environment for the communities they share.
Following the procedures, the dogs were cared for in the field until they had recovered sufficiently. Food, shelter and post-operative care were provided before each dog was safely returned to the location where it was originally found.
A shared effort, made possible through collaboration and care, for healthier communities and better lives for the animals that are part of them.

On 21st August, Australiaโs Market Development Facility (MDF) and Thema Collection brought together government, industry and development partners for a dialogue on Sustainability and Wellness Tourism: Positioning Sri Lanka for the Future.
The session explored how Sri Lanka can build on its rich Ayurvedic heritage, natural assets and unique cultural experiences to tap into the growing global wellness tourism market.
The keynote address by Hon. (Prof.) Ruwan Ranasinghe, Deputy Minister of Tourism, highlighted the Governmentโs vision for strengthening wellness tourism as part of Sri Lankaโs tourism offering. Deputy High Commissioner Ruth Baird shared Australiaโs perspective, highlighting the role of private sector innovation and new markets in strengthening Sri Lankaโs tourism competitiveness.
The programme also brought together perspectives on sustainability in practice, the case for wellness tourism and policy, leading into a panel discussion on โUnlocking Wellness Tourism Opportunities in Sri Lankaโ, followed by an open-floor Q&A and networking.
A valuable afternoon of ideas, perspectives and conversations on where wellness and sustainability can take Sri Lankan tourism.
