From Farm to Your Plate: The Story Behind Every Dish

At Thema Collection, every meal tells a story. It begins in the lands surrounding our properties, passes through hands that nurture it, and ends on your plate, freshly prepared and full of flavor. At every property, our backyards are filled with vegetables, herbs, and fruits, ensuring the freshest meals accompany your journey.

In Wild Glamping Gal Oya, we’ve created a small village-like model with vegetable gardens, fruit plantations, paddy fields, and cattle. The paddy fields ripple with the wind, and the rice grown here often finds its way straight into our kitchens, turning into dishes that taste of the land itself. The harvest from Gal Oya brings not only freshness but also the culture of our Indigenous community.

Over in Waraka Udawalawe, jackfruit trees hang heavy with fruit, and our chefs transform the harvest into dishes that go beyond traditional flavors. From tender baby jackfruit to fully ripe ones, we’ve incorporated this abundant fruit into our menus for you to experience its versatility. At Amba Yaalu Kandalama, nestled within a TJC mango plantation, the sweetest mangoes become desserts, refreshing drinks, or traditional Sri Lankan mango curry and chutney. Here, you can taste—and even participate in—the process with handpicked, freshly harvested mangoes.

In the central cluster, Mountbatten Bungalow’s greenhouse ensures crisp, fresh vegetables are always on hand, no matter the season. At the Tea and Experience Factory, a former tea factory turned hotel, you can witness tea being grown, harvested, and processed, enjoying the full journey from leaf to cup amidst the scenic beauty of Mandaramnuwara. Scottish Planter and Ayurvie Weligama each have gardens that supply produce straight from land to table, while Ayurvie Sigiriya and Aliya Resort’s gardens bring fresh herbs, vegetables, and fruits to every meal, adding flavor and a strong sense of place.

Beyond simply serving fresh produce, we invite you to pick it yourself, watch it transform into delicious dishes, or even join our chefs to create your own meal. While we also source ingredients from nearby farmers to support local communities, most of what you taste is grown, harvested, and cared for right where you are. It’s simple, fresh, and rooted in connection—food you can see, smell, and most importantly, taste. Every bite carries the warmth of the land, the hands that tended it, and the care we put into serving it to you.
