Colombo, 24 February 2026 – The Sri Lanka Sustainable Energy Authority hosted the Sri Lanka National Energy Efficiency Awards 2026 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, recognizing organizations that demonstrate measurable progress in energy management, efficiency improvements, and responsible resource utilization.

Ayurvie Weligama, an Ayurvedic wellness resort under Thema Collection, was conferred the Bronze Award in acknowledgment of its structured approach to energy performance management and implementation of efficiency-enhancing measures. Dedicated to the ancient healing tradition of Ayurveda, the boutique retreat located in southern Sri Lanka offers a holistic wellness experience through Panchakarma treatments, yoga and meditation sessions, and curated vegetarian meals designed to revitalize the mind, body, and soul.

The recognition reflects the resort’s systematic efforts to reduce energy intensity through the integration of renewable energy solutions, optimized operational energy consumption, and the deployment of high-efficiency lighting systems. Notably, Ayurvie Weligama was among the first hospitality properties in the Weligama area to transition to a rooftop solar photovoltaic system, supporting the generation of renewable electricity while reducing reliance on conventional grid energy. These initiatives are supported by continuous monitoring of energy performance indicators and periodic evaluations to ensure sustained efficiency improvements.

Commenting on the achievement, Chairman Chandra Wickramasinghe noted, “Energy efficiency remains a fundamental component of our long-term environmental management strategy. Our approach is designed to balance operational performance with environmental responsibility, contributing meaningfully to national climate mitigation efforts and sustainable development priorities.”

Thema Collection integrates sustainability principles across its portfolio, with a strategic focus on energy management, water stewardship, waste minimization, biodiversity conservation, and community engagement. The group’s operational framework emphasizes long-term value creation through responsible tourism practices aligned with national and international sustainability objectives.

Ashan Karunananda, General Manager – Sustainability and Business Development, stated, “We prioritize structured energy management systems, performance benchmarking, and continuous improvement mechanisms. This recognition reflects the effectiveness of our data-driven approach in strengthening operational resilience and enhancing sectoral competitiveness.”

At property level, consistent monitoring systems, staff training programs, and standardized operational procedures have contributed to measurable efficiency improvements. Resort Manager Dimuthu Dilshan added, “This outcome reflects the collective effort of our operational team. Through staff engagement, awareness initiatives, and responsible operational practices, we continue to strengthen energy management while maintaining a high-quality wellness experience for our guests.”

This recognition underscores Ayurvie Weligama’s continued commitment to strengthening its environmental management systems while maintaining service excellence within a sustainable wellness framework.
