Thema Collection Honoured with Green Business Leadership Award for Second Consecutive Year!
Colombo, Sri Lanka | December 11, 2025 — Thema Collection has been recognised with the Green Business Leadership of the Year Award 2025 – Hotel Sector at the Annual Green Building Awards, hosted by the Green Building Council of Sri Lanka (GBCSL) at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.
This is the second consecutive year that Thema Collection has received this honour, a reflection not of one-off efforts, but of a steadfast commitment to environmental responsibility woven into every aspect of the company’s hospitality journey.
The Green Building Awards celebrate organisations that demonstrate leadership in sustainability through tangible, measurable practices aligned with the internationally recognised GREENSL® framework. For Thema Collection, the award is a recognition of a consistent approach to environmental stewardship that extends across all operations, rather than isolated initiatives.
Commenting on the achievement, Mr. Chandra Wickramasinghe, Chairman of Thema Collection, shared, “Sustainability has never been a separate agenda for us. It is part of how we think, plan, and operate. Receiving this award for the second year in a row is both an encouragement and a reminder of the responsibility we carry, to continue improving, mindfully and steadily.”
Maxime Wickramasinghe, Director – Marketing & Business Development, added, “At Thema, sustainability is holistic. It’s about energy, water, waste, and environment, woven together in practical, everyday choices. Being recognised again affirms that small, consistent efforts create real, meaningful impact.”
With a collection of 16 distinctive properties across Sri Lanka, each rooted in its location and story, Thema Collection has placed sustainability at the heart of its design, operations, and long-term planning. From responsible resource management to energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, biodiversity conservation, and engagement with local communities, these practices are implemented across all properties and continually refined to remain relevant and effective.
Ashan Karunananda, General Manager – Sustainability, reflected, “What this recognition truly reflects is consistency. Sustainability is part of daily life at every property, supported by clear policies and ongoing monitoring. Our focus is not on awards, but on standards that are practical, measurable, and meaningful in each place we operate.”
The award is a testament to the power of long-term commitment, to communities, to nature, and to hospitality that honours both. As Thema Collection continues to grow, sustainability remains its compass, guiding every decision and shaping experiences that are grounded in respect for the environment and the people who call it home.
